About CGGC and GGIC

The Chief Government Geologists' Committee (CGGC) is a subcommittee to the Ministerial Council for Mineral and Petroleum Resources (MCMPR). An agreed annual work program is endorsed by MCMPR. This work program includes collaborative geoscientific data acquisition programs, promotion and marketing plans, geoscientific research programs, trialling of new exploration technologies, and standards for management and delivery of geoscientific information.

The Government Geoscience Information Committee (GGIC, formerly GGIPAC) is a subcommittee to CGGC and comprises representatives from State, Territory and Commonwealth government geoscience agencies and New Zealand. The committee has an operating mandate from the Chief Government Geologist Committee (CGGC) with all tasks done on behalf of and with approval from CGGC. Committee members have varying backgrounds including information management, geology, geophysics and cartography.

The CGGC meets at least once a year, rotating the Chair and host amongst Commonwealth/State/Territory Geological surveys. CGGC comprises the Directors/Executive Directors of the State and Territory Geological Surveys and the Chief of Minerals Division Geoscience Australia, as well as the Chief Executive Officer of Geoscience Australia.

The GGIC meets twice yearly, rotating the chair between the Commonwealth/State/Territory jurisdictions annually. Our work programs focus on:
